ALS, 1797 December 7 : Queen's House, to [Caroline of Brunswick].

Written to his daughter-in-law, Caroline of Brunswick, wife of the future George IV, then Prince of Wales. George III writes: "Since the financial situation of the Prince of Wales does not allow ... him having the carriages ... for himself and you ... I can only approve the fact that neither you nor he will be present at this ceremony ..." George III and his eldest son were on the worst of terms due to the latter's association with Fox, Sheridan and the Whig party, his extravagant life-style, and subsequent heavy debt.
